last night i sent an email to "mr. chipotle:"

dear mr. chipotle,

a little over 4 years ago, my taste buds were TRANSFORMED the second Chipotle's chicken taco landed on my tongue. ask anyone who knows me, i've not been the same since. before moving from indiana to florida to be near my sister, my VERY FIRST inquiry to help with the decision process was "where is the nearest Chipotle?" what can i say? i know where my priorities lie.

in florida, my nearest Chipotle is a half hour away and while the food and experience that Chipotle offers is TOTALLY worth the drive, i'd be able to eat a whole lot MORE Chipotle if i didn't have to spend so much money on gas. PLUS, i'd be able to introduce MORE closet fanatics to the delicious flavors that i have come to love so much.

since you've already stated that my backyard is out of the question, though i'd duel to the death any neighbor who would DREAM of complaining, i suggest the following two locations: here OR here.

both locations are near a hospital, offices, residential communities, a community college, and other unsuspecting restaurants who need a healthy dose of competition.

once you've tasted of chipotle, the morning after is the longest you'll have to wait in order to know just how strongly your body will react to such delicious foods. it's no mystery. even south park has taken notice. but if you feel as strongly about chipotle's menu as i do, those effects are inconsequential and not even worth a second thought. after a few trips to the place that has single handedly ripped your PRIOR favorite restaurant from it's cozy #1 spot, you start to realize that an immunity can be had and you REJOICE by treating yourself to yet another delicious burrito.

case in point: i've been robbed. i've been eating chipotle for over 4 blissful years now and have built up quite the resistance to it's spicy flavors. i've been to chipotle ONLY three times this week and every time i've been burned. the first time i thought it was a fluke. but THREE times? not a chance. someone has stolen my immunity and i want it BACK!

this photo was taken a few days ago when i stepped out of work at the end of the day. when the conditions are right, like that evening, i get to see the most beautiful display of nature in the sky. it's incredible. after a LONG hard day at work, looking up at THIS reminds me of Who is truly in control and i can't help but smile. =)

last night after work, i made my way to my sister’s house, as my routine has been for the last, oh... year and a HALF. it’s funny; i pay rent on a house that has lately become my personal (and very large) storage unit. i don’t mind. i enjoy every minute with my sisters, franklin, and eva. =)

natalie and i spent the entire evening reading shel silverstein's book "falling up" to eva. the WHOLE book. if you've never heard of mr. silverstein before you are certainly missing out on some very hilarious and very witty poems. his books are for EVERYONE to enjoy. and that’s just what we did.

i think i found my youngest best friend today. i took my three month old niece to chipotle and she LOVED it. well... she didn't exactly say those words but i knew how she felt. (whispering: i have unagi.) unfortunately, she wasn't able to eat or drink anything while there (pause for a moment of silence) BUT! once those teefers of hers start growing in, it'll be the FIRST thing she gets to eat.

every wednesday evening since last october, i have found myself in the middle of about 40 kids, screaming my head off in complete and total excitement as our high commander (our one and only, mike eisenman) calls for order to begin our AWANA club meeting. for those who are unfamiliar with the club like i was, AWANA is an acronym that stands for "approved workmen are not ashamed" which is taken from second timothy 2:15. the main emphasis of the program is to encourage, teach, and inspire our young people to memorize God's Word. our AWANA night is an outreach for kids from 1st through 5th grade and each night contains a few basic essentials: opening prayer/announcements, song time, bible time, handbook time (where the kids work on memorizing verses), and GAME TIME. that’s where julie and i come in.

game time and the AWANA game circle is my domain. i was BORN for it. sure when i first started i was TOTALLY nervous about getting in front of kids (yes kids) and directing the games but THANKFULLY julie and cobie were there to make everything go smoothly. we play lots of games; beanbag games, balloon games, and even the classic AWANA relay games. i try to put emphasis on competing hard, while keeping a good attitude. and i encourage good sportsmanship and the importance of both winning and losing with graciousness. these are not easy lessons for those who are competitive (like myself), but slowly some of these character traits are sinking in. i thoroughly enjoy the perks of being the game director: wearing and using a whistle, utilizing the "5 count" to keep the kids on point, pretending to view an instant replay of controversial calls, and being entertained by the kids as they compete along with their leaders.

i have truly been blessed to be part of the AWANA mission and i can’t wait for tomorrow night when julie gets to unleash her relentless whistle blowing skills on the unsuspecting saplings. okay, okay, she’s not that bad.

i am. muahahaha...!

i get "the itch" every once in a while to change things up. tonight i scratched that itch and i couldn't be happier. i traded in my plain, boring white walls for a fabulous "shark" gray. i blared my mcr and 3 hours later... i was done! its amazing what you can get done when you stay FOCUSED.

i live in a home that needs some serious updating but i like to decorate on a dime, so i decided to add a curtain instead of requesting to remove the sliding doors, patching, painting, etc.

and since its no secret that i'm a HUGE fan of urban outfitters, when i happened upon a FABULOUS shower curtain COVERED in owls, it was no surprise that my will hadn't a chance of resisting. i immediately clicked on "add to cart" and a week later i was singing soprano vibrato as i opened my package from uo.

what is it about the thanksgiving holiday that makes my nesting instinct kick in to overdrive? i think it’s my procrastination, that’s what. i’m not a fan of being in the kitchen, so when i needed a serving platter, i all of a sudden had an overwhelming urge to haul everything out of the cabinet and reorganize it. i’m SUPPOSED to be making stuffing, but instead, i now have an organized cupboard to gaze upon. not to worry, i’ll leave the cupboard door open and perhaps that will distract everyone from the fact that THERE IS NO STUFFING! i really don't think that's gonna work though.

alright, back to the kitchen i go to ACTUALLY make some food, like my fabulous mashed potatoes. but not without first saying "happy thanksgiving to everyone!"

i would like you to meet my niece, eva lynne fernandez, aka e.l.f. =) she was born in clearwater on october 19th at 10:38pm after 21 HOURS of (grueling) labor. so incredible. she was 8 lbs, 14 oz and all 20 inches of ADORABLE baby. i still can't believe she's real. sometimes, when i'm not with her, i open her photo on my phone and i just STARE at her. she's completely mesmerizing! i've seen and held TONS of babies, but her? she's.... REAL. i don't know how to explain it. it's just one of the COOLEST things ever.

whenever i get to hold her, i whisper in her ear that i'm her favorite aunt and the one (besides her parents) who loves her the most. how's THAT for subliminal messaging. =D

(she's not even a day old and she's already throwing up gang signs. she is SO the daughter of franklin. hahaha.)

my little sister and i have an... understanding of sorts. we both LOVE getting stuff in the mail: letters from loved ones, just-because-cards, and now... GIFTS! it all started out small; i mailed her sweet little nothings scribbled onto pieces of paper, she bought me a hat. i bought her a sock coin purse and so on. we NEVER had any intention of making it a "big deal" until she decided to amp up on me. and boy was i GLAD! she mailed me a package and inside was a wicked-SWEET pair of bright red head phones! ...for me to wear at the GYM she says. (gulp.) since she was sweet enough to see them, think of me, AND purchase them, its the least i can do. so that's just what i'm gonna do. i'm gonna wear those FABULOUSLY vibrant red (and large) head phones with PRIDE. i even told her i'd even buy a pair of rainbow leg warmers to make the "look" complete. i think.... =)

remember when i said that i've never eaten japanese food? well NOW i can say that i have! i went to kazu's sushi the other night and tried my hand at a BUNCH of foods i never knew existed. i had a bento (a japanese word for a boxed lunch with individual portions of food), some deep fried vegetables, and white rice, of course. i ate ALL of it with chopsticks. i was SO proud of myself. i EVEN ate the sushi! (also never had that before.)

i can't believe it.

i've had over 200 posts within the last year and a half.
me! the haters of all things "blog."

i certainly was never one who desired to blog about my opinions. i simply wanted an easier way to stay in contact with my peoples from home. when you're with someone everyday, its easy to share all the meaningless and trivial things that happen to you during the course of a day. and its simply out of the question to call up everyone and say "hey! an old man just zipped through here on a motorized scooter!" i may love talking on the phone but come on! i'd rather just put it out there and if someone wants to read it, they can. and i think it has worked. my "blog" is more of an extention to my 140-character-limit tweets. i can only say so much about an old man scooting through the parking lot in 140 characters.

this isn't news to any i'm sure but I LOVE OWL CITY. i first stumbled across them on my pandora account and my irrisitable draw to them took off. their music is light and fluffy and no matter how bad a mood i may be in, their music always manages to get me to smile as i sing along and i find my shoulders hopping to the beat. its infectious! i love it. =D

i understand that my absence has caused "MANY" people, such as yourself, a LOT of grief for not being able to laugh at someone who is MORE ridiculous(ly good looking) than themselves and for that i SINCERELY apologize. who am i to take such a gift away from you?

while i have been without a computer for a couple months now, i would NEVER dream of insulting you with such a pathetic excuse... there's nothing quite like being home. walking into your parent's house after not living there for years and yet knowing you still belong; entering the kitchen, seeing your mama cooking like a maniac because her babies are home; the love, the excitement... its really something else. THAT'S what i get to experience EVERY time i come home. i pray that i never have to live without it. i love my home and i wouldn't trade it for the world. =)

this past weekend, my family went to my baby brother's COLLEGE graduation. he FINALLY did it! we are SO VERY PROUD of him! my mom, dad, and grandma pilled into one car (the BORING car) while jeffrey, allyson, and i went in our own car (the SUPER COOL car with LOUD music) and drove three hours to see jonathan.

after the graduation ceremony (which surprisingly WASN'T unbearable), we all headed to texas road house where we proceeded to stuff ourselves in a way only AMERICANS know how:

i got to spend time with galilee and jonna... i have missed them BOTH so dearly. jordan tries to act like an adult but don't let him fool you with his "serious menu-reading face". two seconds into eating, he NEVER FAILS to break out a fart machine and entertain the family for HOURS. yeah... we're like that. =D

while home, i got to visit with my girls, amy and ruth. as SOON as i got off the plane, we headed STRAIGHT for the pool. they know me SO WELL! hahaha. my girl ruth truly has a heart of gold. she’s such a great listener and has always been there for me. i'm so grateful to have BOTH of them in my life. =)

"you can JUDGE ME if you want to, but I DON'T CARE. the little bit of SALSA and CHEESE and SOUR CREAM HANGING OUT in the bottom of my burrito foil after i'm done eating is MINE. ITS ALL MINE! digging down into those foil crevices is my tongue's favorite part of the day. even better is that every time i eat a chipotle burrito, the little SURPRISE at the bottom if my foil is DIFFERENT. i mean, sometimes its CARNITAS, the most awesome pork ever, and sometimes its CHICKEN or STEAK... i have a scrubbin' of a brother who is not keen on physical affection like myself. i try and i TRY but unless its a special occasion (which for him it NEVER is) then he'd never consider it. so... to get around his stubbornness that seems to run so vibrantly through our family, i tried the back door for a hug from him. i mailed him MONEY and put this note on the outside:

yesterday was a sad day to be a rug...

what started out as a normal happy cleaning day turned into an ugly murderous day.

you see, my george loves to leave his mark wherever he goes and he doesn't listen when i tell him to pick up after himself. i seem to be FOREVER vaccuming up the trail left behind him and his furry body. and my bathroom rug? it's his place of choice when sprawling out on the cold tiles. since my rug is so thin, i can't vaccum it and my lint rollers just aren't cutting it anymore so i decided to toss it in the washing machine to see if that would do the trick.

oh, it worked alright. but not only did it take the fur off but it took the THREADING off too!

now all i have left is a CLEAN and UNUSABLE bathroom rug. =(

i have been collecting starbucks mugs for a while now and there has always been an "unwritten rule" stating that all mugs placed in a collection must be from places you have VISITED. well as you all know, i don't get to travel much; so instead of buying a mug from every city i visit and having a collection of what... 2 WHOLE mugs, i changed it up a bit and added an "unwritten clause" stating a mug purchased FOR me from someone i hold dear could count just the same.

i haven't talked to him in over 22 years. that made me... 4 years old the last time i saw him. [LOTS has happened since then. hahaha.] while my uncle soctt was visiting, he told me greg was on a business trip in las vegas (LAS VEGAS!!). i thought i'd take the prime opportunity to open up lines of communication once again by BEGGING him (greg) to get me a las vegas STARBUCKS MUG. not only did he get me a VEGAS mug but he threw in a SAN ANTONIO mug JUST because he's that AWESOME!

so NOW... i have SEVENTEEN mugs. 18--if you count my forged "tallahassee mug", purchased for me by a dear friend who didn't have the heart to leave the city without one. =)

even though all my mugs weren't purchased BY me in cities i have VISITED, they all still hold wonderful memories for me. and that's what counts the most. =)

i've been gone for the past two days so i decided to stop home for lunch to check on george. normally, whenever i enter the front door, george comes running up, BEGGING to be petted. i walked in and nothing. he was nowhere to be seen. i called for him but there was no furry little creature trotting up to the door expecting to be THOROUGHLY petted. not wanting to jump the alarm-gun too quickly, i hunted around for him while calling "treats!" still no response.

and then i heard it. the teeniest, tinniest, little raspy meow.

george was stuck OUTSIDE! i had let him out in the screened-in porch so he could feel the cool breezes on his fur and apparently NEVER LET HIM BACK IN! TWO WHOLE DAYS ago! he had NO water, NO food, and NO TOILET. i felt completely awful.

he came in and ran straight for his bowl. once he'd had his fill, he didn't move to his water bowl. he didn't go to the bathroom sink. he went STRAIGHT for the SHOWER!

i, of course, obliged him.

parental spring break

i had a WONDERFUL time with my parents these past two weeks. below are a few "photo highlights" of our times together. =)

my uncle scott and aunt kathy visited as well and we all went to the sponge docks in tarpon springs and enjoyed the board walk that had tons of neat little shops; we ate some salt water taffy--that stuff tastes so good but it ALWAYS gets stuck in my teeth and i'm forever trying to suck it out of the crevices. its a mess. we also enjoyed a fabulous greek lunch at hellas. below, my dad and i were FORCED to drink out of the same drink because the waiter only brought one glass when both of ours were empty. hahaha.

we went to sand key beach in clearwater. it was GORGEOUS! the weather was perfect, the beach wasn't too crowed, and i was with my favorite people--my family. =) (ruth, when you come down to visit, i'll take you there. you'll LOVE it! i so can't wait. =D)

my dad and i walked the beach and collected all sorts of things and made our very own "leafy collage". =)

i was HOPING to get a chance to see david hasselhoff but alas, he wasn't there. he must have been on break or something. and i didn't understand the strange look i got from the lifeguard when i asked him where david was. odd, huh.

my dad picked this... this THING up and asked me what it was. i had NO clue of course but i told him in my very informative, i've-lived-here-my-whole-life-and-know-everything-there-is-to-know-about-my-surroundings voice and told him is was a "sea turd". funny, he didn't drop it right away. instead, he held it up for a picture. hahaha!

my mom and i had the pleasure of experiencing "chase customer service" at wal-mart. HOLY CRAP! it took FOREVER for us to resolve the issue. i'm GRATEFUL for fraud protection and really shouldn't be complaining but come ON. TWO hours while standing at the wal-mart auto center? (waving finger) "ish don't sink so."

my sisters, mom, and i went to the pool. IN APRIL. it was so much fun and so relaxing. I LOVE LIVING IN FLORIDA! =D

I GOT A NEW STARBUCKS MUG! HOW long have i been living in florida and i JUST NOW got the state mug!? (shaking head) for SHAME.

my sister and i totally scored at target today when we happened upon the $1 SOCK WALL! it was so bad. you'd think it was christmas morning all over again. it got to the point where we BOTH had to put back all the socks and pick one pair each withOUT picking a duplicate pair from the other. i would pick a pair, then she would pick a pair, then i would, then she would. we were laughing so hard at the ridiculousness of it. but we got four pairs of cheap SOCKS EACH! and we shant be confused on whose are whose! i apparently have a very sick love/hate relationship with these stupid things...

my subconscious must hate them because i lose them ALL the time. JUST YESTERDAY, i was late to work 'cause i couldn't find them ANYWHERE. and i've been VERY diligent with them ever since this happened. i've been trying NOT to leave them in random places but instead, keep them in a consistent place--which oddly enough turns out to be my bed. well... more like the folds of my comforter. everyday when i come home, i head straight for my room and dump all my things on my bed. sometimes they get cleaned off, sometimes they don't. but MY KEYS ALWAYS stay in the bed. well... yesterday, i was panicking because they weren't there. i KNEW i had driven home from work and my sister drove when we went out the night before so they HAD to be in the house SOMEWHERE. nope. couldn't find them anywhere. i ended up having to catch a ride to work (LONG story). after work, i get a call from my big sister who lives in the NEXT town saying "hey, my neighbor from 2 HOUSES DOWN found your keys!" i was like "WHAT THE HECK!" i have NO CLUE, absolutely NO clue how they got there. he found them IN HIS FRONT YARD BY THE CURB! that just BLEW my mind. what are the chances!? i never went for a walk that night. i didn't drive. natalie just HAPPENED to be sitting outside in her car at the SAME time he was walking around trying to find out whose keys they were. and if she hadn't recognized them they'd still be lost. what are the ODDS!? like a gazillion to 1!

well i'm telling you, i SWEAR someone STEALS my keys JUST to make me go MAD. and its working! whoever you are, you had better STOP. (shaking fist)

i love my mom. she is hands down the most hilariously ridiculous person i know. and i, out of SEVEN siblings, was the only one who inherited her ridiculousness. (LIES! we ALL did. muaahahaha!)

to give you some background... my mom will hear a phrase or proverb and quote it back to you YEARS later COMPLETELY backwards. or she'd even call something so standard in the english language something WAY off. its one of the most precious things about my mom. we would laugh and laugh every time we'd hear her say one. and until just recently, my family and i have started collecting her "mom-isms" as they come across in conversation and someday, we're going to publish them. someday. =)

get this! there is a "new breed" of cat that looks like a TIGER! its über fascinating! these "toygers" are designer cats that look like a tiger, act like a tiger, but are as small as a domestic cat. they first were bred in the '80s to bring awareness to preserving the tiger population but now they are bred for whoever's got the kizash.

man. who WOULDN'T want a tiny pet tiger? i'd take one!

this past weekend, natalie and franklin bought me a starbucks miami CITY mug as payment for my fabulous house sitting skills during their 3 day absence. i was SO excited that i HAD to take a picture of it right away and send it to my friend ruth who also collects the city mugs. my phone was dying so i had to wait till we were in the restaurant lighting before i could take a photo to send to her. i popped the mug back into its box, stuck it under my arm and in my excitement, i didn’t think to put the LID of the box on the TOP. instead, i had put the box under my arm UPSIDE DOWN.

as i walked into the store, i heard this LOUD SHATTERING noise and my heart plummeted. i knew INSTANTLY that i had dropped my mug. i slowly turned around and sure enough, there on the floor, lay my shattered mug (and heart). the lid had popped open and my mug, my precious miami mug lay shattered on the floor. being the mature adult that i am, i held back my TEARS (more like HID) as i stooped down and picked up the pieces. i felt absolutely awful because not only was it a city i didn’t have but it was a GIFT from natty and franklin!

guess what. that's ME. and how do i know this? well, i FELL in the parking lot at WORK, scraping my knee AND foot AND toes AND elbow... and pride. i don't even know how it happened! i was walking one second and the next, i was on the GROUND grasping for my foot. sure i was shocked at first, but once it set in what happened, the hurts started to come on and so did the tears. ...lets just say, you're never too old to tear up over a booboo.

i'm fine. i'm just glad nobody saw. i hope.

while cleaning my room last night, i found a journal that i had written in back in 2004. i flipped through the pages, curious as to what i could have possibly written about, and i found an entry that i'd like to share.

"as you come to Him, the living stone... rejected by men but chosen by God... you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." [1 peter 2:4-5]

after talking to ziva saturday night about the difficult parts of how my relationship with [censored] ended, she shared with me that verse. i told her that it wasn't his rejection of me--who i was--that was so hard to deal with but it was his rejection of what i had to OFFER that was so completely hurtful and the hardest for me to deal with. man may reject me, BUT GOD HAS CHOSEN ME. with all my imperfections and failures, God STILL loves me and has still chosen me to be His own! ....WOW! that's a hard one for me to grasp because i AM human and that kind of love does not exist in human nature.

as i read that, i thought of how much my life has changed from the person i was 6 years ago to the person i am today. there's a quote by joyce meyer that always made me smile because no matter where you are in life, it will always hold truth: "i know i'm not where i'm supposed to be but at least i'm not where i USED to be!" AMEN! =D

my mom has ALWAYS wanted a HUGE home that all her babies can come home to during the holidays. personally, i'm rather fond of the tight quarters and don't mind sleeping four to a floor by the fireplace. but my mom refuses to accept that scenerio and wants huge comfy beds for EACH and every child and i've found JUST the homes to accommodate her wishes...
