a week in review

can i just start off by saying.. ruth ann tarwacki is such an amazing friend. she alone has made this the bestest, most amazing week and i can't thank her enough for it. =)

this week, while the tarwacki's were moving adam into his new apartment, ruth and i became... roomies! it was like being back in college--goofin' around, staying up late, and workin' our butts off. so much stuff went down this last week. as the week progressed, we realized that we are complete enablers when it comes to each other's idiosyncrasies. it's terrible and fantastic all at the same time. =D

here is a teeny, tiny glimpse at our time together:

monday
: we went to see the proposal. such a great movie. we thoroughly dissected all aspects of it and concluded that every scene with ryan reynolds was completely vital to the story. hahaha.

tuedsay
: we went to the midnight showing of transformers. we didn't get to bed till 3 AM. we were zombies walking out of the theater. being the responsible adults that we are, we told ourselves that we'd take a nap before heading to the movie. yeah... that didn't happen. there was so much to do and so little time! (freaking story of my life!) it was a great night and totally worth the lost sleep.

wednesday
: hahaha. good 'ole wednesday. this day is to be kept secret... =)

thursday
: for supper i made a delicious little dip that we had with fruit. along with the very salty corn-on-the-cob, it turned out to be a nice (though not your typical) supper. we took this night to stay in and work on our laptops while watching 24.

friday
: we went to the $2 theater to see x-men origins. i had seen the movie before but this was ruth's first time and dangit! the theater was SO nasty that it almost ruined the whole experience of seeing it on the big screen. the floors. oh my gosh. the floors were so horrible, i had to put a little extra effort in to picking up my feet when i walked because the stickiness clung to the bottoms of my flip flops. the chairs. the chairs were lumpy and moist and we had to put napkins behind our heads in fear of getting lice or something icky stuck in our hair. the screen was fuzzy, the air smelled of decaying meat, and movie didn't even start on time! i guess thats why the movie was so cheap. =/

saturday
: we finally slept in. =) we woke up around 11:30, cleaned and detailed our cars, headed to the pool to bake for a bit, came home, dolled up, and went out shopping. we had a blast. =D

we may have eaten very unhealthily and gotten very little sleep, but this week... i wouldn't have traded it for the world. =)

tea time

i’m not known to go around spouting bible verses or updating my facebook by sending “hallelujah tweets” because i feel that too many people who call themselves christians do it only to make themselves look righteous. so many times, their lives contradict the words they “preach”. i’m not ashamed nor embarrassed of my faith by any means, but i feel that most of the time, my faith can be better seen through my example and my actions rather than my words (not that words can’t be powerful).

so with that in mind, i share this with the most sincerest of hearts.

a year ago this month, i sat down and wrote out some encouraging verses, not really thinking too much about them, just knowing that they were good ones to remember. last night, i stumbled across them in my bible and as i read over them, i realized that they speak to the very things i’ve been struggling with today. and the cool thing is, every single one i wrote down, i needed to hear.

i love how God works [most of the time… =) (shrugging) what? i don’t always have a handle over my flesh.] and His timing, whether i want to admit it or not, is impeccable. these verses are such a great reminder of what i need to be doing right now.
philippians 4:6-7 (nlt) “don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your heart and mind as you live in Christ Jesus.”
james 1:5-8 (nlt) “if you need wisdom, ask our generous Father and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. but when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. do not waiver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave in the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. such people should not expect to receive from God. their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”
psalm 34:4-5 (nlt) “i prayed to the Lord and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. in my desperation, i prayed and the Lord listened. He saved me from all my troubles.”
james 5:16 (nlt) “…the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” prayer is a christian’s most powerful resource. the results are often greater than we thought possible. sadly, some people see prayer as a last resort – when all else fails. because God’s power is greater than our own, it only makes sense to rely on it.
i share these with you not to say, “hey, look at me. i’ve got it all together.” i don’t. and i’m far from it. but perhaps you’ll come across this and these verses will encourage you just as they have encouraged me. (shrugging) who knows. God has been known to work in mysterious ways. =)

one down

this past monday, my co-workers and i spent over $60 at chipotle.com. it was SO much fun! i rounded up as many co-workers as i could who hadn’t tried the food there yet and placed a monster of an order online. what can i say. i get a teeny tiny thrill out of making newly obsessed fans of the oh-so-fabulous food. =)

here is a review from one of the newbies:

“did i like my chipotle meal? YES!
was it spicy and filling and delicious? YES!
does it leave little green goodies in your teeth? YES!
does chipotle give you gas? YES!
would i eat there again? YES!
now that i am no longer a chipotle virgin, i will probably become a chipotle ho! thanks for a new addiction, i needed one..!”

maybe now they won't have to lay off the second shift after i leave... hahaha.

happy birthday boo boo!

i remember:
  • arguing with you over EVERYTHING and then forgetting it all 5 seconds later.
  • borrowing clothes from each and neither of us owning up to the small stains that would mysteriously appear.
  • playing egyptian rat screw with you and me NEVER losing. =D (owned.)
  • shoving clothes underneath the dresser to your side of the “cleaning line” in our room so you’d have do more.
  • poking holes in the plastic dad put on the windows during winter.
  • working at kohl’s with you. "paging bethany. code 4 at the registers" hahaha.
  • your phrases: “mama! mama! mama!” and “ni-ni-ni-ni-no”. (tsst.)
  • all the noises you make to describe things when you can’t think of the words.
  • you teaching me the ways of nail biting when we were little--you little drug dealer.
  • you reading all those christian romance novels--one a DAY ...sometimes two!
  • your famous peanut butter fudge.
  • watching you put on your makeup.
  • visiting you at grace college and you taking me to your art bldg. =)
  • you teaching jubee ALL the swear words.
  • swearing we’d NEVER live together… and look at us now. =)

bethany, i love how you love people and how you always try to think the best of them. i love how you could sell shoes to someone who didn't even have any feet. i also love that no matter how much you have, if someone needs something, you'd give it to them and say, "eh, i've lived with less." and i love how you and i both know those curtains are NOT staying in the living room. (tsst.)

...now harden up. you're not getting anymore sappy talk until next year. =)

ps. i love you bethany. and thanks. for being my big sister.

my day trip

i went down to good 'ole muncie indiana to help my srubbin' of a brother with his very first apartment. we had a bet that if i didn't think it was epic then he'd buy me lunch and if i did, then i'd buy him lunch.... he bought. =)

we ended up going grocery shopping because the boy had NO food. we played with our computers (because of course that's the first thing that needs to be set up). and then we went to see the movie UP. it was hilarious. we laughed through the whole thing. (that's one of the things i love about jonathan. he laughs so easily and it makes life so much more enjoyable.)

for an early birthday present, i bought the scrubbin' a brita filter so that his delicate taste buds wouldn't have to suffer from the un-softened water. (big baby.) he loved it and i yet again solidified my role in the family as the bestest sister. man! i'm unstoppable! =D

his "epic" computer system. (rolling eyes) he's such a nerd. =)

jonathan has AMAZING driving skills... =)

all in all, it was a good trip and i'm glad i got the chance to see him before i leave. =)

happy birthday mama

to the bestest mom in the whole wide world: i wish you a very happy birthday. (you old fart.) =D

ps. mom, how many years has it been where i've been the FIRST to legitimately wish you happy birthday? i do believe that makes me your awesomest child. (eat that jonathan. tsst.)

iamterminated

i may not be a fan of the movie but i happen to be a dork and a fan of any website ending in "...yourself.com". i think they're fun and totally worth all the rolled eyes i get when i show people my final product. =)

so tonight... i decided to terminate myself:

pretty wicked, huh. =)

mixed emotions

(my baby winkers)
sadly, there has yet to be an emoticon created that reflects how i feel today.

today, i am both elated and saddened to have gotten rid of my baby winkers. she was such a good cat to me for four long years and she was always there for me--even through some very tough times. whenever i'd cry, she come over and literally stroke my face like she was reassuring me that everything would be ok. it was the sweetest thing. i've never had a bond with a cat the way i did with her. she'd cuddle up against my neck and snooze like a little baby newborn. she never left my side. [and not just because i kept her indoors and never let her out. =)] she was my precious black kitty that loved me as dearly as i loved her. and now, here i am, writing about i how i found a new home for her. (shaking head) how ironic.

so why get rid of her? well... i can't take TWO cats with me where i'm going. oh that's right...! i haven't mentioned yet. i'm MOVING TO FLORIDA! you read that right. TO FLORIDA. and soon. very soon.

so soon in fact, i've been calling every single animal shelter within 50 miles of here to see if anyone had room for winky. for months i've had no luck. i talked with friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, anyone within earshot. no luck. until today! (hence my elatedness.) i was able to find a loving home for winky without fear of her being holed up in some shelter, locked in a cage until someone came along and adopted her. its wonderful that i don't have to worry about that any longer. she's in a good home and will be loved for many years to come. =)

to all the nerds and geeks out there--YOU are so hot. =D hahaha.

so a blonde walks into a bar...

well... it was really more of a salon than a saloon... but last night--yes, yes, the night before the day--amy and ruth forced!, no bullied!, no.. HELD ME AT GUNPOINT! with ruth putting her foot on my neck! and amy holding my arms behind my back! and they said to me with their pointed fingers "you will color your hair or else!" (whimpering) ..and they were really mean about it. =(

...hahahaha. okay. okay. so that's one big fat lie. =D they would never do that to me. (right guys?) i wanted to color my hair but i was too chicken. (hmm... must run in the family.) they were just the right amount of encouragement that i needed. (thanks guys.) =)

see. i've always been blonde. i was a dirty blonde (...snickering) growing up and when i was about 14, i started putting highlights in my hair and have been über blonde ever since. until last night...

check out my transformation from blonde to brunette (and you gotta role the "r" on that. i would for you, but i can't. not even in person.).

before (and obviously NOT at gunpoint.)

during

and after!

don't worry guys. i may be a brunette for now but i am, and will forever be, a blonde at heart. =) it'll be back someday.

update 06/05/09: oh my gosh! i completely forgot. melissa goepfrich did my hair! and she did an excellent job if i do say so myself. =) you can find her at 'artistic hair' in south bend. or... at 574-261-9810. the end.
